A piece of furniture takes much attention, time and thought to complete. However, there is something about completing a piece of furniture that makes it feel more like a milestone and other projects. Almost like they help define little chapters or seasons of my life. Like the way hearing a song can bubble up surrounding memories. I intentionally over-build my furniture to be robust enough to outlive their original owners. Even though it may take a small season of time to complete each piece, it is only a blip on the lifetime of the furniture.
I aim to tastefully highlight abnormalities and scars in the pieces I make to move something from unwanted to desirable - because it is the quirks and abnormalities in each of us that make people so interesting to live with as well.
